Gourmet Ghetto

This past Saturday Chris and I had our little date, we went to Gourmet Ghetto, which is filled with restaurants, boutiques and galleries, located on Shattuck Ave and Vine Street in North Berkeley, CA.

We ate lunch at Ryowa, since Chris was craving for ramen. This restaurant is not in Gourmet Ghetto, but it’s only 2 blocks away. Oddest thing happening to us at the restaurant, after we got seated I took out my camera and was about to take my picture of the menu for my bloggy, the woman (waitress/hostess) came by and said “NO PICTURE!” I was like, “Excuse me?” She repeated herself again, and walked away. I looked at Chris and he looked back, “is she serious, maybe no picture of the menu???”

Then the women returned to take our order, asked us why we are taking pictures. So I answered, “it’s for my blog.” She replied, “The boss doesn’t like people taking pictures and give a bad review on Yelp.” Whatever that means, I was thinking in my head, wow…your boss can’t take any criticizing, and what does that have to do with taking pictures? She went on about bad review from Yelp for 10 minutes, after she finally left. I said to Chris if people give a bad review they are not going to post a picture, and Chris said “picture speak for itself, we are the type of people goes straight to the picture first.”

I don’t think I have ever been told NO PICTURE in a restaurant.

By the way, their ramen was just okay, we had better.

After lunch we went to The Cheese Board in Gourmet Ghetto for dessert, I initially picked this place for lunch. But they only make one type of pizza a day; Saturday’s pizza included Goat Cheese, that’s definitely a NO NO for Chris, since he’s not a cheese fan, so dessert it is. Cheese Board is divided in two sections, one section is the pizzeria and the other section is the bakery.

We were overwhelmed with their many varieties of baked goods, I ended up choosing their Currant Scone (serves everyday), contains organic white flour, sugar, butter, buttermilk, cream, currants, baking powder, baking soda, sea salt and cinnamon.

Chris picked out Tomato Caper Focaccia, a very popular item (everyday except Mondays); consist of organic bread flour, water, sourdough starter, roma tomatoes, kalamata olives, capers, balsamic vinaigrette and sea salt.

We enjoyed our delicious dessert under the sun, on the grass, and in the middle of the street, LOL! The middle divider has a big patch of grass, where you’ll see people sitting, eating, reading, hanging out, and sunbathing. That was very interesting for us, too.

After, we went down to Horseshoe Park to enjoy the beautiful view of the bay and the view of San Francisco. It was so breezy, we just snapped some quick pictures and left.

Overall, we had a great time in Berkeley minus the NO PICTURE comment; we are absolutely going back to The Cheese Board to try their Pizza and some more of their mouth watering baked goods. I utterly recommend The Cheese Board and Gourmet Ghetto, if you are in Berkeley.

Have a great week, until next time…Peace Out!
