SpiderPro Holster: Mini Review and Upgrade offer

Posted by: Chris (Lumpia) :)

Hi Guys… This is my first post!!!  I wanted to give you a mini review on my SpiderPro Camera System.  Hope you find the topic/review interesting!

Last year, I had the opportunity to fly to Vegas for a day… just for WPPI (2010), with the intent to purchase some cool camera stuff… including this newly launched (at the time) camera holster system. Perfectly enough, I was able not only to purchase the holster, but also to meet the Founder and Creator of the system himself, Shai Eynav! What a humble and down-to-earth guy!!! He greeted me and also assisted me in putting my system together right then and there, lol.  So for the whole convention I had my rig (camera) stuck to my hip :).  Boy, does this system work wonders!!! Especially for people with neck problems like me -a traditional neck strap was just not cutting it!  This system transfers the weight to your hips and legs, which for the most part are your stronger body parts.  I carried my gear around for 10 hours, yes 10 straight-hours!   Please bear in mind my gear is roughly 7-9lbs, and this holster carried it at ease!

Shai and the SpiderPro Team really know how to keep their customers happy.  A few months after owning this holster system, I get an email from Spider Holster, stating that they will be sending out a new belt design due to a small amount of clients/consumers who “apparently” experienced the belt buckle opening up on its own.  Do you believe that, FREE replacements to all customers!!! Crazy right, not to mention that this issue never happened to me (and the old designed (buckle) seemed pretty sturdy already!).  This shows that they are open to comments and improvements, which don’t just go thru one ear and out the other.  My sincere gratitude to them for taking care of us!

I've had mine for more than and year now... And it was going strong, took it everywhere- from Yosemite, SF, Boston, etc…  I even brought it to China; this is where I put it to the real test (on our 2 week vacay!).   It was going well up until the 10th day… We were walking Shanghai’s streets and I notice that my camera was loosening up, so I grab my camera by the hand strap and along with it came the holster that connects to the SpiderPro Belt (the little bungee-type cord that keeps the holster base in place broke off) .  Lucky for me I felt it or my camera would have took a plunge onto the ground!!!  Funny enough that didn’t stop me from using it… The SpiderPro Holster is conveniently and creatively designed that you can use the holster with your own belt instead of the one provided, so I looped it through my own belt and strolled along… After returning home I decided to contact them to tell them what happened.  A day later, I had Shai calling me directly apologizing and wanting to know what he could do (Yes, him directly!!!).  A few days later, I had a completely brand new SpiderPro Belt sent to me via FedEx (at no charge!).

If their service wasn’t enough, I get an email a few weeks ago stating that a new SpiderPro Holster design was being released due to wear on the holster (where the pin sits on the base) for a flat rate of $15.  I noticed a little bit of this issue and told Shai about he called me directly.  And surely enough he listened, hence this newly designed piece.  So this new SpiderPro Holster has an insert that’s replaceable if you ever need to do so.  AMAZING ain’t it!  If it was any other company, they would have laugh in your face for free replacements or even a comment or two about what could be improved… This definitely isn’t the case with Shai and the Spider Holster Company!

Mind you… none of these issue stated above were big enough for me to worry about, aside from the bungee breaking.  But that was fixed with the new belt he sent me, the holster is now not only is bungee'd but also held by two screws onto the belt itself to avoid it from happening again.  Not to mention, the belt and holster replacements were/are not mandatory, they were/are available to people who request for it or felt concerned.

So if you’re in the market for a new camera carrying system, please give the Spider Holster a shot.  Your neck and shoulders will thank you.  And, their customer service can't be beat. You won’t be disappointed.  I definitely ain’t!

  1. I had ignore the email about the pin wearing down on the spiderholster until today. my rig is a little over 6lbs, after two years of use I'm now seeing the worn down metal on the clip I used most (the other just a flash that I use off the shoe. Now I'm getting two replacements free! ($15 for shipping) I wish they would include a few extra inserts in the new one...BTW after a year, how well does that little metal insert hold up compared to the original one piece?
