When we were in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii last April, we tried 2 different restaurants of Loco Moco, both are fantastically delicious and hit the spot; Rainbow Drive-in and Liliha Bakery. If you are ever in Honolulu, please check out these places and try the dish, you would fall in love like I did.*
*I would like to give a big hug and a thank you to Elaine and Lani (the sisters), having us tag along to Hawaii and letting us crash at your timeshare. The 2 times we went together were full of laughs, entertainments, and most importantly great friendships. I’m glad to be included in your circle of good friends.
Hamburger Patty Mix:
1 lb lean ground beef
1 small onion finely chopped
4 cloves of garlic finely chopped
2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce
1 egg
1 teaspoon salt, black and white pepper
Brown Gravy:
1 can beef broth
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon butter
Few dashes of Worcestershire sauce
Fried eggs
Cooked white rice
Directions:
1. Combine all the hamburger patty mixes together and gently mix. Form 6 good size patties.
2. In a frying pan over medium-high heat, cook patties until cooked to your liking; about 5 minutes on each side. Remove from heat and set aside.
3. Fry egg – sunny-side up or over easy in the grease from the ground beef.
4. Melt butter over medium heat, slowly whisk in the flour then pour in the beef broth. Whisk until gravy is nicely thick and smooth.
5. Assembly: Scoop the cooked rice into a bowl, top with the patty (1 or 2), pour gravy over the patty, top with the fried egg (1 or 2), then pour gravy over egg.
